It wouldn’t be my first choice again in the future, but my son who I buy it for doesn’t have complaints after having drunk Silk for a year…I’m not a big cows milk drinker and tend to drink soy along with him, I wanted to try a different brand when money was a little tighter and we ran out of drink boxes for school – this is a better deal as you get more. I’d be interested in trying the chocolate. But I did not care for the taste of this myself and think I’ll stick to Silk when I make my next purchase .. but overall do recommend as an option for milk alternatives. As good as any soy milk should taste. Creamy and not too sweet. Less sweet tasting than Silk. I’m lactose intolerant so it’s a good alternative. Be sure to shake well as the package indicates. The first time I tried this, I didn’t shake it and it had chunks at the bottom. But nothing a shake doesn’t fix. I use it for my daily cereal, smoothies and coffees. Love it!
This was a good value for the taste. It doesn’t stand out, per se, but it is pretty good for some plain ordinary soy milk at a very reasonable price. No surprises, no bad flavor. Great alternative to regular milk.
I have subscribed silk soy milk for a long time and decide to try this brand.
However, I received the item and found there is no straw attached on each bottle.
I can not imagine how to drink each one.
Amazon doesn’t let me return it.
I have emailed customer support and will update the review.
update:
first contact: Amazon offered 40% off, it is unacceptable because I still can not drink the soy beverage.
second contact: Amazon will send me another pack to replace the “no straw” pack.
update2:
the new arrived pack still have no straw.
Pacific Natural Foods Enriched Soy Milk Non-Dairy Beverage, Plain, 8-Ounce Aseptic Packages (Pack of 24)
I love Silk soy milk and was surprised to find this product is its equal in terms of quality and flavor.
Pacific Natural’s texture is a bit more velvety and creamier, making it ideal for my mashed potatoes and “cream” soups. As someone who grew up in a skim milk-only household, this “fat milk” is a very satisfying and decadent daily treat. I use it on cold cereal, oatmeal or simply as a nutritious mid-day snack. Feels good and tastes good.
The 8-ounce single serving size and aseptic shelf-stable packaging are convenient bonuses. Highly recommend!
the taste is ok, however it has lots of residues and it make you think if it had turn bad???
I am not super talented in the kitchen , just a mom trying to feed two little food sensitive children and not let them be deprived of desserts, who got tired of Pamela’s brownie mix and was ready for a new challenge.
This is a very well researched and written cookbook and the only gluten free, dairy free and soy book that I have heard of.
I have tried some of the prepackaged flour mixes to make things like pancakes and muffins and not had great results. Recipes that I found online were not that great either.
This book includes a good variety of recipes that have, so far, yielded some very tasty results. There were some ingredients that I had difficulty finding or could not find at all. For instance, vanilla pods were expensive and not easy to come by. I am still unable to locate coconut butter which would be great since soy free margarines are impossible to find. Some of the suggested ingredients are available through online sources that are listed in the books resources.
I found the introduction and definitions of ingredients to be very helpful and the pictures are an inspiration. I leave this book on my cookbook stand because it is so gorgeous and whenever I get a minute or two we get right to making flan and cookies. These are good looking cookies that I am proud to share with everyone. People are very ready to reject them as sub-standard when they hear that they have no wheat or dairy and they can’t because they’re too good. I look forward to the challenge of the more difficult recipes and to mixing her flour mixture to try in other recipes.
Worth every penny for the smiles they put on the kids faces.
As a working chef, I am often skeptical of cookbooks, especially ones which are marketed as “_____ Free.” The market is so hungry for these works that any fool with a decent photographer can put together something which looks good enough to sell. Often the result of such efforts is first-wave, 1970s era trail-mix hippie cakes that you CAN eat for health reasons but WOULD NOT choose to eat for any other reason. I mean recipes with no refinement and a lot of margarine and soy-milk.
Ms. Bundy is a French-trained professional with a real knowledge of culinary technique AND a chef’s appreciation for what is good and delicious. She uses ingredients cleverly and focuses on healthy fats and nuts to provide richness. When offering you one of these desserts in my home, I would not say “here’s something gluten-free” but rather “here’s something you’ll love.” As a wheat-allergic person myself, I am grateful for this book.
I bought this when my daughter was diagnosed with a milk and soy protein allergy. I haven’t made a single recipe from it, though, because the ingredients are all hard to find, even at Whole Foods.
I guess as a vegan I automatically assume that eggs go into the dairy camp. Don’t assume other people think the same way. This book is laden with eggs. *sigh* I guess when looking through some of the Amazon excerpts of the book it uses the word vegan a few times…I was totally deceived. Hopefully I’ll be able to salvage some of the recipes with vegan alternatives. There are several that are vegan, though.
I have been enjoying “Sweet Alternative”. The Mock Oatmeal Cookies are amazing. Thanks for your insight and creativity in the foods you present in your book. I really like your approach including the raw foods combined with traditional foods, it’s a good mix. I have influenced my friends to purchase your book with little effort just by giving them cookies.
I purchased this soy milk maker about 1 year ago based on its pretty good reviews here in Amazon.
First one month, it was all good. However, it started to show wear-out sign not long after. First, it generated more and more noise. Soon we found that a bolt on the bottom was loose and detached. That’s probably the reason for noise. Later, we discovered that some whole soy beans can still be found in the maker or not completely grinded even after the milk making process was done. Now it’s a little more than 1 year old and we cannot use it anymore.
Great product and outstandding custormer service. I live overseas and they called me to check my electrical plug type and voltage, thanks!
I got this to save money. It most certainly does that. Loading soybeans is a bit difficult. Maybe upgrade models do that better.
Bought this machine back in Sept. 2007 to replace a different model. We make a batch of soy milk every 1-2 weeks. The machine works great, better than I expected. After a few months of use and quick cleaning, the metal filter clogs a bit. However, I also found that if you leave the filter soak in soapy water overnight before cleaning, it doesn’t clog.
I came back searching for this same machine as a gift for a friend. Highly recommended.
This machine makes really, really good milk. My kids love the nut milks especially. The ability to make raw milk is very important to me and this machine does that as well as cooked. We love to pour nut milk over oatmeal and add some blueberries. As a mother it’s very important to me to have my children eat healthy food and this machine helps.
Customer service is awesome. When I ordered some extra items they arrived two days later. The people at customer service are friendly and down to earth. That’s hard to come by today.
So my rating is for both the machine and customer service. A+
Pacific Natural Foods Enriched Soy Milk Non-Dairy Beverage, Chocolate, 8-Ounce Aseptic Packages (Pack of 24)
This chocolate soy milk has a creamy, velvety texture. Shake well and pour into popsicle molds and freeze for a delicious and nutritious frozen treat.
I use this as the liquid base for my fruit smoothies and as the perfect complement to a snack of natural peanut butter on whole grain bread or crackers.
Side note: As of this writing, the nutritional information on this page omits the Vitamin D content. As per the package, in addition to 40% Daily Value of Calcium, 8 ounces of this soy milk also contains 30% Daily Value of Vitamin D.
Nutritious and deliciously satisfying in a convenient single-serving size, shelf-stable package. Highly recommend!
